When we began
exploring Buenos Aires via the internet, to plan our
first visit, we received one clear impression: The
Recoleta is the place to stay. We ended up staying
in a hotel there and it was very nice, but were advised
by the manager that if we wanted to get a sense of the
real Buenos Aires, it's history and it's future, not to
mention restaurant prices that are half or less than what they charge
in the Recoleta, we should head for the Palermo
neighborhood. We
followed his advice and we were instantly smitten.
In a matter of days we cancelled our following week of
reservations in Chile so we could spend more time
exploring Palermo. Within a week, much to our own
surprise, we submitted an offer to purchase a townhouse.
After some negotiation, the offer was accepted and we
found ourselves owning what we now call CASA PALERMO.
We found that Palermo is "where it's happening."
It beautiful and old and it's modern and hip; it's with
it and it's cool. It's everything that Buenos
Aires has to offer. Despite it's international
standing and sophistication, and it's deserved reputation
as the "Paris of the South," Buenos Aires is a city of
intimate neighborhoods. To stay downtown (Microcentro)
or in Recoleta is to miss the real dynamic and soul of
this great city. Palermo is centrally located,
so exploring the rest of Buenos Aires is easy. "A
picture is worth a thousand words." Following is
small sample of Palermo, visually explaining "why stay
in Palermo." |
